Historic levels of power demand spurred by AI applications and the data centers that serve them are creating opportunities across the power, renewables, and transmission sectors, according to LS Power COO Darpan Kapadia.

Darpan, speaking on Infralogic’s Crossroads podcast, framed the AI race as a “sprint… not a marathon.”

“Time to power matters and so everyone’s trying to move very quickly,” Kapadia said. “For a lot of these hyperscalers and data center developers it’s key to their success as a business.”

Kapadia noted that he sees ample investment opportunities in gas generation assets and renewables, particularly for operating assets. The rollback of tax credits has increased the cost of building new wind and solar, making operating assets or projects with safe-harbored equipment more valuable.
