Saxenhammer plans acquisitions in Germany to accelerate growth – CEO

  • Looks for expertise in healthcare, debt advisory, LBO financing
  • Aims to double revenues in three to five years
  • Will finance deals with cash and equity

Saxenhammer, a German M&A and corporate advisory firm, is planning acquisitions to accelerate its growth, CEO Christian Saxenhammer said.

The company is looking to acquire advisory firms that can strengthen its presence in sectors including healthcare, and expand its capabilities in areas including debt advisory and leveraged buyout (LBO) financing, Saxenhammer said. Germany is the firm’s geographic focus for M&A, he added.

The objective is to double the firm’s revenue within three to five years through a combination of organic growth and ideally a mid-sized acquisition, Saxenhammer said. It generates revenue in the double-digit million-euro range and is growing at an average annual organic growth rate of around 20%, he added.

Saxenhammer is evaluating targets of varying sizes, ranging from small firms with around five employees to larger businesses comparable in size to itself, he said. Strategic and cultural fit are more important than size when assessing acquisition opportunities, he said.

There are several firms in the advisory sector, particularly smaller ones, that are considering joining larger platforms as the industry adapts to AI-driven transformation, he said.

In an acquisition, Saxenhammer would generally seek to acquire 100% of the target company, he said. However, founders and managers could receive an equity stake in Saxenhammer if they wish to remain involved after a transaction, he added.

The company manages its M&A activities in-house and is in talks with some potential targets at present, he said. It would like to complete an acquisition in 2027, he added.

Saxenhammer is profitable and would finance acquisitions using a combination of cash and equity, he said.

In 2025, Saxenhammer took over part of the German team of Clairfield, he said, but has otherwise grown organically. The same year, Saxenhammer also established a partnership with Clairfield for international business.

Founded in 2006, Saxenhammer has advised on more than 600 completed transactions with a total volume exceeding EUR 25bn, according to a report in the press. Its competitors include Oaklins, IMAP, Clearwater and Lincoln International, he said.
