Global: Back in business

Global equity capital markets activity grew modestly in the first quarter of 2024, as a return of IPOs in Europe alongside new listing momentum in North America planted seeds of optimism for the rest of the year.

Macroeconomic pressures continue to put volumes well below the boom years of 2020 and 2021. With global interest rates and geopolitical volatility equally high, investors are yet to dig deep into their pockets wholeheartedly, but the deals priced so far have given reason for encouragement.

Global 1Q ECM volumes of just under USD 166.6bn are 6.3% up from the USD 156.3bn recorded in 1Q23, according to Dealogic data. Excluding China from the total, global ECM volumes are 35% higher than 1Q23.
