HaysMac could acquire to expand service lines, enter new sectors
- Accountancy firm has completed two transactions this year
- Organic development is prime focus
HaysMac, a UK-based accountancy, tax and advisory firm, could make further acquisitions that build out its offering or enter new business verticals, Partner and Head of Sector & Markets Jon Dawson said.
Organic development is “at the heart” of HaysMac’s growth strategy, but this year’s purchases of Green Square and a specialist US-based tax team from Moore DM are evidence the firm could acquire the right opportunity that serves its needs, Dawson said.
HaysMac is “extremely selective” in its growth efforts, with organic and M&A development primarily driven by management’s vigilance to become more prominent in various business sectors or by client demand for specialist services, he explained.
Providing services to businesses operating in the firm’s existing sectors, as well as new verticals currently being explored, including various streams of consultancy, were cited by Dawson as potential growth areas.
HaysMac, which turned over GBP 75.8m in the year ended 31 March 2026, could grow via M&A or organically, with the latter being the core focus as it continues to achieve double-digit organic growth annually, he added.
Dawson acknowledged that M&A could complement organic growth. HaysMac is not looking to acquire revenue; instead, it is focusing on the strategic relevance or enhancement of its existing offering.
All options, including employing industry specialists, training existing staff, strategic partnerships, and M&A, will be considered as the firm continues its march toward reaching turnover of GBP 100m within the next couple of years, Dawson said.
HaysMac revenues jumped 65% between 2022 and 2026, from GBP 45.9m to GBP 75.8m, aided by investment in its operations, growing staff numbers, and the expansion of its service lines, he said.
Staff numbers have grown from an average monthly count of 346 in the year ended March 2022 to more than 600, Dawson said.
Headquartered in London, and with a presence in Cape Town, South Africa, HaysMac provides audit, corporate finance, outsourcing, risk assurance & advisory, tax and transaction services. It operates across various business sectors, including charities, education, FinTech, financial services, hospitality, media, property, retail & commerce, sport and technology, according to the company’s website.
The firm is led by Managing Partner Natasha Frangos.
In May, the firm announced the acquisition of Green Square, a UK-based specialist corporate finance advisory firm, for an undisclosed sum. The deal strengthened HaysMac’s corporate finance capability, according to the deal announcement.
Green Square, which has more than 20 years’ experience advising on transactions across a wide range of ownership structures, had an average employee count of 12 in the year ending March 2025, according to Companies House data.
In February, HaysMac announced the acquisition of a specialist US tax team from tax advisory firm Moore DM. The move represented “a significant milestone in HaysMac’s international growth strategy and the ongoing expansion of its Private Wealth services,” the deal announcement notes.
