The threat of 50% import tariffs on Brazilian goods by US President Donald Trump has caused consternation among dealmakers, with advisors seeing pauses on both deals and early fundraising efforts.
In addition to uncertainty in dealmaking, some public companies have seen shares fall as a reaction to the announcement. Brazil exports huge amounts of things like steel and coffee into the US, but the US has a trade surplus with Brazil of USD 7.4bn as of 2024, there could be impacts on US businesses as well.
