PPG [NYSE:PPG], a paints, coatings, and specialty materials company, has kicked off the sale of its silica products business, three sources familiar with the situation said.

The Pittsburgh-based company sent out teasers and has signed up interested suitors to participate in the sale process, two of the sources said.

Financial sponsors and a short list of strategics are expected to show interest in the silica business, the sources said.
