Endeavor weighs options for sports agency IMG

Endeavor [NYSE:EDR] is weighing sale options for sports agency group IMG, according to sources familiar with the matter.

The entertainment group, which was acquired by Silver Lake in a USD 13bn take-private deal earlier this year, is working with The Raine Group to explore options for the media rights and sports management agency, two of the sources said.

IMG generates EBITDA in the region of USD 120m, another of the sources added. It is part of Endeavor’s Events, Experiences and Rights division.

Beverly Hills, California-based Endeavor could also look to explore selling other parts of its Events, Experiences and Rights division, one of the sources said.

No final decision has been made on the timing of a potential sale of either IMG or other parts of the Events, Experiences and Rights division, two sources added.

Sovereign wealth funds and financial sponsors could be buyers of these assets, some of the sources said.

Endeavor’s Events, Experiences and Rights division generated EBITDA of USD 228.1m and revenues of USD 2.17bn for 2023, according to the company’s annual results.

IMG is a global leader in sports, events, media, and fashion, offering services in athlete management, event production, and media distribution. The company also operates major fashion events, manages licensing opportunities, and provides strategic consulting to brands and organizations worldwide.

In June 2023, Endeavor sold the sports education business IMG Academy to EQT Partners for an enterprise value of around USD 1.2bn.

Silver Lake entered into an agreement to acquire Endeavor in partnership with the company’s management and other investors for USD 13bn in April.

Representatives for Endeavor and Silver Lake declined to comment. Raine Group did not respond to requests for comment.
