What are the three most critical things you need to be a good head of M&A? Emilio Zito, head of M&A and IR at French energy group EDF, shares his recipe for staying on top of a complex, fast-moving industry. Here’s his top three:

  • The knowledge to understand a particular transaction very quickly to be able to seize the momentum/M&A opportunity
  • A very strong industry network internally (to talk with the experts of an asset class) and externally (lawyers, bankers, partners, industry peers…)
  • Strong management skills and a strong team to keep on top of everything that is happening in the industry and execute transactions
