Alphawave, Spectris deals signal new wave of transatlantic tech deals – Dealcast podcast
17th June 2025 03:17 PM
Two large, listed UK tech companies, Alphawave and Spectris, announced sales to US buyers on the same day last week, signalling renewed interest in transatlantic dealmaking.
Valuations for tech companies have long been depressed in the UK, creating opportunities for overseas investors. At the same time, low share prices means the management of potential targets are often more receptive to inbound interest.
Charlie Taylor-Kroll, Mergermarket’s UK bureau chief, joins Dealcast host Julie-Anna Needham to discuss the outlook for the UK tech deals including:
- The details of another “merger Monday” deal announced on the same day – IonQ’s purchase of Oxford Ionics for more than USD 1bn
- Why UK tech companies are being targeted by US strategics and sponsors
- Why Craneware is resisting the trend by rejecting an offer from Bain Capital
All this and more in this week’s Dealcast.
