Trina Solar to sell Australian battery assets

  • Previous plans for broader portfolio sale now focused on Australian assets
  • Rothschild advising on Trina Solar’s asset sale as part of Project Nova
  • Kemerton and Kiewa Valley batteries to be operational by 2027

Trina Solar is marketing the 330 MW/1,320 MWh Kemerton battery in Western Australia and the 500 MW, 1 GWh Kiewa Valley battery in Victoria, according to a source familiar and two teasers.

The teasers do not mention a timetable or an adviser for a sale. A source said that Trina is not using an adviser for the Australian sales.

In May, Trina Solar started sounding out the market about the sale of 80% or more of its global battery and solar development business outside China.

The developer had mandated Rothschild to sell the assets, according to a flier for Project Nova seen by Infralogic.

Jiangsu-headquartered Trina also previously sought to sell its development-stage assets in Australia and Southeast Asia as a portfolio, as reported on 29 April before the Project Nova teaser was issued.

Trina has now decided to focus on Australian asset sales rather than the broader sale, according to three additional sources.

The one-page marketing document for Kemerton says that a connection application and a development application for the project have been submitted and the battery should be operating by the second quarter of 2027.

Kiewa Valley obtained development approval last quarter, but it is also scheduled for commissioning in the first half of 2027.

Both projects have secured the necessary land.

Trina spokespeople did not respond to a request for comment.
