Bidders shortlisted in Statkraft Australia sale
FRV Australia, Swedish renewables developer OX2 and Palisade Investment Partners are among those considering buying Statkraft’s 1.7 GW pipeline of renewables assets in Australia, according to four sources familiar.
Four groups have been shortlisted in the auction, according to one of the sources.
Rothschild is running the process on behalf of Statkraft, which is selling the assets after buying Enerfin and deciding that some of its assets are non-core.
The French investment bank launched the Project Sancho process in May, according to a teaser seen by Infralogic.
None of the 1.7 GW development pipeline has been built yet, but the 73 MW Woolsthorpe wind project in Victoria, which Enerfin co-owns with ICA Partners should be ready to build this year.
The 165 MW Stony Creek wind farm in Queensland should be ready to build in 2025. The 400 MW Kings Plain wind project in New South Wales, the 250 MW Tara wind project in Queensland, the 600 MW Booligal wind project in New South Wales and the 200 MW Booligal solar project are due to be built in the years that follow.
One of the big attractions of the sale is the development team, according to one of the sources.
For parties who either do not have an Australian wind development team or would like to add to the one that they have got, he argues that this could be a good bolt-on acquisition.
OX2 bought Australian solar developer, ESCO Pacific, last year. EQT Infrastructure VI made a bid for OX2 in May, which the board recommended shareholders accept.
Spokespeople and officials at FRV, OX2, Palisade and Statkraft either declined comment or did not respond to requests for comment.
